H. Carl Wick

Lyons---Harvey Carl Wick (always known as Carl),72, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, at his home in Lyons, New York, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born on May 19, 1953, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to the late Harvey and Ruth Wick. He is survived by his three siblings: Gail Vigliaturo, Judith Harris, and Paul Wick. He was predeceased by his older sister, Ruth Elizabeth (Beth) Wick, who passed exactly thirteen years earlier.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics and mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and went on to pursue postgraduate studies in computer science and nuclear engineering. From 1975 to 1987, he served his country as a submarine nuclear engineer in the U.S. Navy. He later dedicated over two decades to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an environmental engineer.

Upon his retirement from the EPA in 2014, Carl moved with his wife, Anne, to the Finger Lakes region to pursue his passion of establishing a regenerative homestead. A lifelong learner, he became skilled at rearing beef and dairy cows, chickens, geese, and ducks; raising bees organically; and developing a permaculture garden. He also applied his woodworking skills to enhance the farm.

Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Anne Wick. He leaves behind two children from previous marriages, Eric Wick (Nikola) and Caroline Wick (Ian Rowe). His survivors also include grandchildren Jasmine Houghtelin (Brady), Jerrika Miller (Adam), Jordan Wick, Isabella Rowe, and Chadwick Rowe, as well as two great-grandchildren.

A lifelong reader and devoted lover of language, Carl will be remembered for his kindness, his wonderfully dry sense of humor, his deep blue eyes, and the unwavering love he showed to his family and friends.

A memorial will be held in the future at his homestead in Lyons, New York, a place that reflected his spirit, his curiosity, and his commitment to the world around him.
