Barbara D. Taber

September 10, 1926 — August 6, 2014

Red Creek Barbara D. Taber, 87, of Red Creek, passed away on August 6, 2014. Born on September 10, 1926, she was the daughter of Maynard and Cecile Douglas. Barbara was a life-long resident of Red Creek. She graduated from Red Creek High School, attended Albany State, then completed her education at Rochester Business Institute. She worked for 34 years as secretary to the Superintendent of the Red Creek Central School District. In 1982 she was named "Working Woman of the Year" by the Fair Haven Business and Professional Women's Club. She retired in 1991. Sports, cooking, gardening, and reading were among her many interests. An avid fan of the Syracuse University football and basketball programs, she intently followed many of the players throughout their careers in professional sports. Most of her favorite professional teams were determined by the number of former SU players on the rosters. Barbara was well known for her "green thumb." She maintained a beautiful yard during the summers, tending to many different types of flowers, bushes and the occasional vegetables. She also shared her home with more than 100 houseplants. Barbara's husband of 45 years, Norman L. Taber, passed away in 1993. She is survived by her children, Michael of Marblehead, MA, and Patricia of Las Vegas, NV, son-in-law Wallace Seidle, a grandson, a great-granddaughter, and a niece, as well as extended family. Calling hours will be on Friday, August 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Becker-Keysor Funeral Home, in Red Creek. The funeral service will be on Saturday, August 9 at 11 am at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Fairmount Cemetery. www.keysorfuneralhomes.com
