Betsy Sue Briggs

Lyons Betsy Sue Briggs, 50 of Sunderville Rd., lost her courageous battle with cancer on Monday, October 20, 2014 at home surrounded by her family and friends. Family and friends may call Friday (Oct. 24) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Weeks-Keysor Funeral Home, 5 Phelps St., Lyons, where a funeral service will be held Saturday (Oct. 25) at 10 am. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Betsy was born November 17, 1963 in Newark, a daughter to Morris and Mary Dyson Van De Walle. She dedicated her life to children, and activities at several school districts around the county. She started her bus driving career with Newark Central Schools, ending at Lyons Central School, having been Senior Bus Driver with SBDI and 19A State Certification. She worked at Lyons Central School for 18 years and also enjoyed her second career at WalMart in Seneca Falls. She was a very active community member and role-model for many. Betsy will be sadly missed. She was predeceased by step-son, Zachary. Betsy is survived by her husband Dennis; 2 children, Daniel Scherbyn of Lyons and Kendra Noyes of Lyons; granddaughter, Hailey Lynn Scherbyn; mother, Mary (Ed) Miner of Lyons; father, Morris (and friend Nancy) Van De Walle of Marion; brother, Michael Van De Walle of Canaseraga; 3 sisters, Cheryl (Bob) Brannan of Marion, Kim (Jerry) Baker of Lyons, and Christina (and friend Chris) Van DeWalle of Newark; several nieces, nephews and cousins. www.keysorfuneralhomes.com
