Sophie Quagliata, 93, a lifelong resident of the Town of Arcadia, passed away Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons.
Sophie was born February 10, 1922 in the Town of Arcadia, a daughter to the late Wasyl and Anna Hulczak Yaskow. She was a talented crafter, she could take any part of nature and make a beautiful craft out of it. Sophie was a life-time communicant of St. Michael’s Church and a longtime member of St. Michael’s Women’s Club in Lyons, a Master Gardner Emeritus with the Cornell Cooperative Extension, former President of Newark Garden Club, a Matron for Junior Grange, and was an active member of many other organizations.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Newark Garden Club, 1408 Summit Dr., Newark, NY 14513.
Predeceased by her husband, Joseph in 1989, daughter, Patricia, and siblings, Steve, Peter, Mary, Lena and Catherine.
She is survived by 2 sons, David (Carol) and Terry (Kathy); 3 grandsons, Daniel, Jason and Andrew (Susanne); 5 great-grandchildren, Justina, Darrien, Grace, Stella and Sloan; sister, Mildred Dudley; nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call Monday (Jan. 18) from 4 to 7 pm at Weeks-Keysor Funeral Home, 5 Phelps St. Lyons. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday (Jan. 19) 10 am at St. Michael’s Church, Phelps St., Lyons. Burial will be in South Lyons Cemetery.
