Robert was born in Lyons on December 6, 1920, son to the late Alvin and Glennie Nelson Tyler. He graduated from Lyons Union School in 1938, where he enjoyed playing saxophone in the school band.  After graduation, Robert joined his father in operating the family farm, where he would work for the next 40 years.  He met his future bride, Kathleen Patricia Snow, when her family moved to Lyons and began attending the Evangelical Church on the corner of Spencer and Holley streets, the church his family also attended.  The couple was married on July 31, 1942 and celebrated their 71st and last wedding anniversary together in 2013.  Robert served the Town of Lyons as an assessor for 10 years before selling the farm, moving to Newark and taking the position of Sole Assessor and Zoning Officer for the Town of Arcadia and Village of Newark.  He would remain employed there for the next 9 years.  After his retirement he and his wife enjoyed reading, volunteering for home delivered meals, spending time with their basset hounds, attending auctions and yard sales and collecting glassware and other antiques.

He is survived by his daughter Andrea (Richard) Evangelist of Lyons; three grandchildren Jerrod of Lyons, Joel of Missouri and Makenzi (Jason Hughes) of Delmar, NY; three great-grandchildren; sister Bernice Tyler Rice of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his daughter Judy in 1968 and wife Kathleen in 2014.
